Tenth Anniversary Event
The Society celebrates its 10th Anniversary. The evening's presentations will include an introduction by professors William Halverson and Finn Benestad on their newly-published book: Edvard Grieg: Diaries, Articles, Speeches. Musical performances will include Edvard Grieg's "Trio" and his "Cello Sonata." The Sonata will be played by Darrett Adkins, who also performed the Sonata at the Society's inaugural concert at Governor's Island in 1991. Violinist Ole Bøhn will make a special appearance. A Concert in Hartford
A reception, concert and dinner will take place at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Martin Berman with Dr's. Joanna and Bill Gerber as co-hosts. The program will feature music by Edvard Grieg, Liszt, Halvorsen, Luna and deFalla. Performing artists are: Virginia Herrera, soprano, Ole Bohn, violin, and Lloyd Arriola, piano. The year 2000 marks the 1000th anniversary of Leif Erickson's voyages of discovery to America. In recognition of this anniversary, the Edvard Grieg Society and the Leif Erickson Society are arranging a joint event at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 80th Street & Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. Co-founder of the Leif Erickson Society, Mr. John Carlson, will talk about the Vikings and the discovery of America. Founder and President of the Edvard Grieg Society, Dr. Per Brevig, will give a presentation of Bjornstjerne Bjornson's adaptation of Bergliot as taken from Harald Hardraades Saga by Snorre, and set to music by Edvard Grieg. Refreshments will be served. Donation $5.00.

at the home of the Norwegian Consul General of New York, the Honorable Atle Leikvoll.

This event is presented in conjunction with Dr's. Finn Benestad and William Halverson's publication of some 500 letters in a volume that will be entitled Edvard Grieg: Letters to Colleagues and Friends.

The scholars will make a brief presentation and discuss the historic correspondence between Edvard Grieg, Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt. A concert with music by Grieg will follow the presentation. Thursday, May 4th 6:00 p.m.

The Society and the Sons of Norway Lillehammer Lodge, Manhattan, invite you to attend an evening at the Norwegian Church and Cultural Center in a program entitled Meet the Artists. Per Brevig will interview painters Irene Christensen and Kjeld Tiedemand-Johannessen in conjunction with the opening of their ar exhibition at the Norwegian Church and Cultural Center, 317 E. 52nd Street. Donation $10.


Wednesday, May 17th, 6:00 p.m.

The Society's Second Annual Benefit Concert, Dinner and Art Auction will take place at Three West Club, 3 West 41st Street, New York. Outstanding Norwegian and American painters have donated their art works to benefit the Society.

The program starts at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail hour and viewing of the art works. A concert at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by a dinner during which the auction will take place. Donation: Concert, auction and dinner $100 for members, $110 for non-members.
